Rich and elegant, the Terra d’Oro 2016 Bricco Red presents inviting aromas of black cherry, blueberry, cedar, anise, lavender, Herbs de Provence, cocoa, earth, vanilla and pastry dough. On the palate, this wine showcases a generous entry of ripe plums before building to a dense core and a refined finish with velvety tannins. This red blend is a nod to traditional Italian winemaking with a modern twist.
In Italy, the finest vineyards are located on hilltops. These hilltops are known as “Bricco” and they produce the region’s best fruit. Here at Terra d’Oro, we have created a limitedrelease Bricco blend of our own with fruit sourced from our finest vineyards throughout Amador County. Made up of Petite Sirah and Syrah, both varietals included in this blend thrive in the thin, well-draining, sandy loam soils along oak dotted hillsides.
Both the Petite Sirah and Syrah have a tendency for big structure, and as a result, this wine spends longer time in barrel to allow the tannins to soften resulting in a beautiful wine that drinks beautifully now and will continue to age and develop.
After being hand-harvested at night in the cool, early morning hours, the fruit is collected into stainless steel tanks. After the fermentation process is complete, the wine is aged for 24 months in French and American oak barrels (30% new) before it is ready for release.
